Netherfield SHDF Retrofit

ECD are working with our sister company Keegans on behalf of Mears Group on a retrofit at scale housing project consisting of 302 Council owned homes on the Netherfield Estate in Milton Keynes, funded through SHDF Wave 1 and 381 properties funded through SHDF Wave 2.1. Initial surveys identified that the homes were poorly insulated with evidence of damp, mould and overheating in the summer. ECD have been working on design proposals that address these issues and improve the thermal envelope. ECD built PHPP models of each archetype to consider the impact of proposals on the space heating demand to ensure that the most impactful retrofit measures were brought forward.

New insulation is being installed to walls and roofs, windows are being upgraded and new ventilation installed, keeping the homes warmer and ensuring no risk of mould. The existing external fins are being replaced, and in conjunction with window alterations this will reduce overheating risk in the homes. The external appearance will be transformed, using a palette of render and weatherboarding which was agreed with residents during consultation events.
