ECD Architects Student Sustainability Awards 2021

ECD Architects Student Sustainability Award 2021

August 20, 2021

We are pleased to announce Eilidh McGuigan as the winner of the ECD Student Sustainability Award and Teddy Sharpe as our honourable mention! As part of our commitment to support young architects in education, we invited second year students from the University of Strathclyde and London South Bank University to compete in a sustainability competition.

Architectural Technologist, Niall and Director, Alistair presented to the Universities, and students were invited to respond to one or more of the RIBA sustainable outcomes through their design work as well as provide a short statement explaining the concept behind their response. The competition looked to encourage students to consider the many aspects of sustainable design to mitigate accelerating climate change. It sought submissions that presented a well-rounded sustainable design solution which tackled the main issues of RIBA sustainable outcomes and responded to the site on which the project was situated. A prize of £150 was awarded to the winner and an invitation to present their winning design to staff during an upcoming company update.

Announcing the winner was Eilidh from University of Strathclyde, James Traynor, Managing Director commented:

‘Eilidh’s scheme is beautifully presented and I like the way in which she has explored the use of the site and the thought and care taken in the landscaping strategy and its interaction with the building.’

An honourable mention went to Teddy from London South Bank University, who also received great feedback from the judges:

‘Teddy’s scheme is also well presented and describes a convincing proposal for the reuse of redundant spaces and creation of a new interactive place for a variety of uses.’

Well done to all those who entered!  We received a lot of excellent submissions and the quality of response was extremely high. We look forward to holding more competitions like this in the future to continue to support young architects in education.
