Sussex Yacht Club Shortlisted for AJ Architecture Awards

Sussex Yacht Club Project has been shortlisted for an AJ Architecture Award for the Leisure Project Category.

August 25, 2021

We are thrilled to announce that our Sussex Yacht Club Project has been shortlisted for an AJ Architecture Award for the Leisure Project Category.

The AJ Architecture Awards recognise brilliance in UK architecture across a variety of categories, from School & Housing Projects to Landscaping and Leisure. These highly respected awards are unique to the market and the winners are published in a special edition of the Architects’ Journal.

The Leisure Project category includes new-build or refurbished projects completed between January 2019 and July 2021 in the hotel, retail, sports and leisure sectors.

The building has been designed as a contemporary take on a traditional form to complement the historic vernacular of the town and its architecture. The design builds on a language of yacht architecture and subtly resembles the existing clubhouse, which is a popular local landmark. The exposed riverside location and coastal architecture of the broader surroundings has provided inspiration for the scheme. The materiality, using standing seam cladding and brick, is designed to be contemporary, robust and low maintenance.
