Associate & Passivhaus Designer

John joined ECD in 2019, as a Senior Architectural Technologist, with over 20 years’ experience working with small and large architect practices in Dublin and London. Having qualified from the Dublin Institute of Technology (now Technological University Dublin), John became a chartered member of the CIAT in 2016. In 2022, John successfully completed WARM’s Passive House Designer course to become a Certified European Passive House Designer (CEPHD), and in April 2023 he was promoted to the role of Associate and is now one of our Technical Leads within our London studio.

John has provided technical support on a number of large-scale residential, mixed-use and commercial projects; as well as running a number of projects for public and private sector clients in the residential & education sectors. John was the architectural lead, on our first Passivhaus-certified school project, Thornhill Primary School; and, during the feasibility stage of the Carpenters Estate tower blocks appraisal which has led to the redevelopment of James Riley Point.

John has extensive technical knowledge; and has a methodical & considered approach to detailing and information production, which is backed up by a sound understanding of Building Regulations and construction methodology. He has experience of client liaison, gaining Planning & Building Regulation approval, design team co-ordination; as well as production information for tender & construction, and providing architectural services during the construction stage.

Currently, John is providing technical guidance on a number of projects in the regeneration, education and residential sectors; as well as establishing the practice’s provision of the Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) service. He is also fulfilling the BRPD role on a number of Higher- Risk Buildings (HRBs) and Non-HRBs.
