John McIntyre Building Welcome Point

The John McIntyre Building is a category B listed building of considerable significance which is located within the Gilmorehill campus of the University of Glasgow. The works consisted of altering an existing lecture space to form the new welcome point entrance to the University, providing an information hub for students and visitors to the campus.

Also included were new toilet facilities and the conversion of a small cafe into new staff office space linking to the main space via modern glazed screens and a new reception desk.
The brief was to provide a flexible, welcoming space to showcase a variety of digital and printed information relating to the University and the Students’ Representative Council, while still respecting the existing features and character of the listed building. ECD Architects were lead design consultant and contract administrator throughout all stages of the framework contract, and were also actively involved in the fit-out proposals involving liaison with a number of University departments as well as the SRC to ensure that the content and capabilities of the media and furniture would meet all aspects of the intended functions for the space.
