Spin Studio
Glasgow
Alterations to create a high tech Spin Studio for the University of Strathclyde students.
Location: Glasgow
Client: University of Strathclyde
Status: Complete
Specialisation: Gym tech facility
This project involved transforming an open-plan area within the University of Strathclyde’s flagship Strathclyde Sport facility into a fully enclosed Spin Studio. The intervention was designed to reduce noise transfer from high-energy classes and enhance the gym experience for all users.
The new studio offers an immersive, flexible environment for both instructor-led and virtual spin sessions, expanding the university’s health and fitness provision for students, staff, and members. It also includes a dedicated Watt Bike zone that displays individual and group performance in real time, encouraging a healthy sense of competition.
The space features 20 IC7 bikes integrated with the ICG Connect platform and is visually anchored by a bespoke mural celebrating Strathclyde Sport. A functional training rig supports instructor-led sessions, and Halo technology allows members to sync wearables to monitor their progress. A striking lighting design—chevron-style RGB strips suspended at varied heights—creates the illusion of an uphill climb, linking dynamically with the instructor’s podium lighting to elevate the atmosphere.
This addition reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, inclusive spaces that encourage physical activity. It builds on a series of upgrades to the Strathclyde Sport facility since its 2021 opening, ensuring it continues to evolve in line with the needs of its diverse community.
