ECD Architects’ Lizzy Westmacott, Director & Head of Sustainability, and Laura Boffardi, Sustainability Lead – London, will be attending Retrofit, Obviously! – A Shared Vision for a Strong Retrofit System, the National Retrofit Hub’s first national summit, in London on Thursday 24 September.

The National Retrofit Hub (NRH) brings together organisations and expertise from across the retrofit sector to help overcome the barriers to delivering high-quality retrofit at scale. Its work is centred around three core pillars – Convene, Evidence and Action – bringing stakeholders together, strengthening the evidence base and turning shared knowledge into practical action.

ECD is already actively involved in this work, with Lizzy serving as Co-Chair of the NRH’s Warm, Healthy, Net Zero Homes Working Group. The group brings together expertise from across the industry to help develop the data, tools, design guidance and best-practice approaches needed to support high-quality, scalable retrofit.

Taking place at Tipping Point East in London’s Royal Docks, Retrofit, Obviously! will bring together policymakers, local authorities, housing providers, communities, industry, finance, health and academia to explore how the sector can develop a stronger, more joined-up retrofit system.

Through research, practical tools, real-world case studies and interactive discussion, the summit will explore some of the challenges and opportunities facing retrofit delivery, including Health & Homes and Procurement & Social Value.

For ECD, these conversations closely align with our longstanding focus on sustainable design and the practical delivery of low-energy, healthy and comfortable buildings. Our work across large-scale housing retrofit, EnerPHit and decarbonisation has demonstrated the importance of combining strong technical performance with an understanding of residents, existing buildings and the wider social outcomes that retrofit can deliver.

Lizzy and Laura are looking forward to sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues from across the sector and contributing to the conversation around how we collectively move from retrofit ambition to effective delivery at scale.
