The Lochgelly Regeneration Featured in BD magazine!

For the past 16 years, the ECD Glasgow team has been working with Ore Valley Housing Association and the local community on the ambitious regeneration of Lochgelly town centre. Last month the regeneration of Lochgelly town centre was recognised twice by the Placemaking awards, a national awards programme that celebrates excellence in UK planning and regeneration.
Ike Ijeh in BD (http://www.bdonline.co.uk/the-rebirth-of-lochgelly-and-lessons-for-brexit-britain/5082814.article) sums up the value that the regeneration of Lochgelly town centre brings: “Thriving new shops have been opened, historic fabric has been restored and converted, facilities have been improved and new housing and public spaces created, and scores of new businesses have been opened by local residents, galvanising a new era of economic activity in the region.
… The remarkable story of Lochgelly’s renewal extends far beyond the confines of architecture and design … . [I]t offers a sobering treatise on the genuine delivery of placemaking and regeneration, terms cynically commandeered by far grander development projects, particularly in London, but rarely convincingly scrutinised or delivered.”
Alistair Cameron, the Project Director, said “The successful Regeneration of Lochgelly could not have been achieved without the local community and client, Ore Valley Housing Association – an organisation which over the years has had an incredible commitment to undertake projects which develop not only housing but also the business and leisure facilities which make a community, resulting in a truly holistic regeneration of the area.”
