ECD at the International Passive House Conference 2016 (Darmstadt, Germany)

April 7, 2016

James Traynor and Nick Newman will be presenting at the international Passive House Conference 2016 as part of the Step-by-step to retrofits seminar:

  • Saturday, 23 April 2016, Darmstadt, Contress Center darmstadtium

This year the international Passive House Association conference is to be held the Contress Center darmstadtium – the darmstadtium science and congress centre which is located in the heart of Darmstadt – the city of Science and technology.

Incredibly, 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of the first-ever Passive House and 20 years of Passive House Conferences. The iPHA conference has therefore returned to Darmstadt to celebrate and reflect with topics such as an investigation as to the durability of the individual building components of the first Passive House.

When the first Passive House was built in Darmstadt 25 years ago, this was an experimental project. Today, the resulting standard for energy efficiency has become an integral part of construction activity; the reliable heating energy savings of up to 90 percent have confirmed themselves for tens of thousands of residents. This Standard is also regarded as the ultimate benchmark for public buildings in a growing number of towns and cities – whether in Frankfurt, Brussels or New York. At the same time, Passive House is already meeting EU requirements for future climate-neutral construction.

James and Nick will be presenting on Large scale EnerPHit using our Wilmcote House project in Portsmouth as a case study to discuss whole life costs and lessons learnt on high rise retrofit. As one of largest EnerPHit projects in the UK, Wilmcote House is being used by the BRE/EuroPHit programme which aims to provide step-by-step solutions to deep energy retrofits, and looks at technical solutions as well as the financial models required to make these projects viable and attractive to investors.
