Wilmcote House shortlisted for the Constructing Excellence Awards 2015

May 15, 2015

We are pleased to announce that Wilmcote House has been shortlisted for the Constructing Excellence Awards 2015.

Wilmcote House is an 11-storey residential development in Portsmouth which is being retrofit to the stringent Passivhaus EnerPHit standard and stands as a very good candidate for the London and South East sustainability category awards.

Built in 1968 using a large panel REEMA variant of prefabricated construction, a number of major elements of the building had come to the end of their serviceable life with the result that the building required major refurbishment including structural interventions. With no place to relocate the residents of these 107 units, Portsmouth City Council commissioned ECD for the building’s regeneration with the residents in occupation.

The Constructing Excellence Awards ‘recognise the best and inspire the rest’.

The Awards focus attention on some of the most important issues for the sector and recognise the very best companies, collaborations and projects – sharing best practice and inspiring others to adopt new and better ways of working that deliver outstanding results.

The judges of the Sustainability category will be looking for a project or organisation where the principles of sustainability have been fully embedded, particularly those that demonstrate creative and/or innovative thinking and leadership. The winner will be an exemplar where sustainability is central; providing hard evidence that effective management of environment, social and economic aspects has achieved a significant and tangible improvement in performance.

The judges will give preference to entrants that demonstrate that a responsible long term and collaborative approach has been taken to add value and achieve a range of net benefits for themselves and others.

Announcing the shortlist results, the team stated:

“The Shortlisting Team really enjoyed reviewing all the entries – there was a marked increase in the number and the standard of submissions this year and the task of selecting our finalists has proved an interesting challenge.”

Winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner on Thursday 2nd July – put that date in your diary now!
