Church Conversion to Climbing Arena

March 31, 2015

We are pleased to announce that ECD Architects has been appointed for the design and associated services required to repair, alter and extend St Andrew’s Church to form a new space for an indoor climbing arena.

St Andrew’s Church sits in the heart of Lochgelly town centre and is a fine sandstone church, originally constructed in 1854-55. The building, however, has been unused for several years.

Fife Council (owners of the building) recognises the importance of adding value to speculative development of the church to ensure maximum impact is achieved from re-using this historical asset with an element of new build allowed for.

Throughout the development of the project design proposals, ECD will be working closely not only with Fife Council and the Fife Historic Buildings Trust, but also with “Rockgelly”, a social enterprise, who will be responsible for the proposed indoor play, climb and bouldering arena within the refurbished and extended church building which will be capable of hosting national competitions for the sport.
