Coombe Girls School Extension

Kingston
Client:
Royal Borough of Kingston
Project value:
£960,000
Brief:
New extension to existing School

This new first floor extension for Coombe Girls School is built on top of an existing single storey building. The design features facades in a mixture of brick and aluminium/ zinc cladding that both reflect and complement the existing school buildings. The project provided new self-contained staff facilities, comprising of a staff rest room and offices; study area; computer room &
associated ancillary accommodation; as well as toilets, showers, a new staircase and lift. The design incorporates sunpipes into the centre of the largest computer work room increasing natural daylighting levels while reducing energy consumption through lighting. It is felt that providing staff with these improved facilities and resources will directly benefit pupils and improve the school
as a whole.
