Wolseley UK Sustainable Building Center (SBC) Opens

ECD’s Sustainable Building Center project, designed and built for Wolseley UK has finally opened its doors for business with two major events. On Wednesday, 11th of June it held a ‘Partners’ Day’ to which they invited company Execs within the building and development industry to view the building and its benefits; and on Thursday, 19th of June it held a Press Day, inviting journalists and editors from various publications to formally announce the SBC’s arrival on the construction scene to the public. On both days an introductory seminar was held along with tours and question/answer sessions to highlight various products within the building and its benefits to the building industry and sustainable development.

Designed by ECD Architects, the Sustainable Building Center is a 6,800 sq ft showcase for sustainable building products and technologies. The SBC was developed by Wolseley UK, the global building materials supplier, to act as the interactive shop window for their sustainable construction supply chain and is targeted at everyone involved in environmentally-friendly development, from the jobbing builder to the major developers. Uniquely, almost all the specified products incorporated into the building design are available for supply through the Wolseley network of Build Centers, Plumb Centers and other brands.

In May the building won the Institute of Civil Engineers Midlands Awards 2008 and Wolseley presented this award to ECD at the Partners Day.

A promotional booklet of the project has been produced by ECD Architects which has been sent out to key clients and is also on show at the Wolseley Building Centre.
